Final Game Update! (3.00)


Introduction

Hello! This is the final ever update I'll be released for this game. I know not a lot of people play this game, but I just wanna make this one shine a bit. Even if it's just school project. I do wanna make it look pretty and age good, and something I would be really proud of making.  Actually in this update most of the progress I made are Graphical Changes. So there are some noticeable things you'll see when you first play the game.

During this game development, I learnt a lot during this game development progress. Most of them include: organization, balancing, GUI, and the progress that I'll be experiencing on Game Projects like this for a long time. I'm glad I experienced that, knowing what it feels like when doing other projects in the near future.

Without further ado, here are the patch notes for this update! I'm so excited! :D

Patch Notes

Main Change

  • This magician you're control is now named Meredith! Thanks Jaruz from King of the Hat. It's a good name for her! Funny enough, her best friend is Marilyn... Never actually noticed this after 10 mins adapting Meredith to her. Moving on.
  • Revamped the main menu system.  Visually and Functionally.
    • Everything has a description now to the 3 modes: Classic Mode (Start Game!), Practice Mode, and Controls and Spell List.
    • Practice Mode cannot be accessed in Pause Menu anymore. But will be appeared on the Main Menu.
    • There would be a little Tutorial within Controls and Spell List. Of course, the Controls and Spell List will be there as well.
    • Came up a better subtitle other than that boring and long text below the title screen. Thank goodness.
  • Whenever you picked Classic Mode (Start Game!) or Practice Mode.  There will be a countdown, making it more suspenseful. I guess.
  • Meredith will not be floating in air in every starting game, and will stay at the ground at the start; she's not a Air Magician.
  • When casting spells, there more indicators that'll let you know more visually that they're being cast. More "animation" pretty much.
  • Boulder is now change and will not appear on the sky, but rather appear on top of Meredith.
  • Buffed the Boulder to deal slightly more damage.
  • When casting Fireball, it'll spawn 6 of them. Not 5.
  • The Pause Menu is now changed, you can access it by pressing Enter.  Other functions related to the Pause Menu is now moved or removed.
  • In-Game Spell List can now be enabled and disabled anywhere! Not just in Pause Menu.
  • Cleaned my spaghetti code for better future reference. Probably not enough though.
  • Optimized some of the graphical stuff.
  • Other changes that I forgot. Didn't used Trello for this one. :C
  • Removed the information of this game in the main page. It doesn't look good for first impression.

Graphical Changes

  • Added a little tree to the side! Less empty space to see!
  • The sun loves the attention, thus hating the tree for being there. The sun is now moved to the right side of the background. It is now happy!
  • Readjust the grass to be more grounded? Made the grass not blocking 1/3 of Meredith and the Dummy.
  • Added little shade on the grass. Sadly don't have motivation to do it with the characters. They're not made as sprites or images, but rather coded in.
  • Optimized the Background looks. They're also look more prettier now. So proud for this one.
  • Changed the clouds to be Rectangular, not Squares. That's unrealistic
  • Changed some of the colors of the spells to be contrast more against the environment.
  • Dummy will now get gray when hit! Giving the player more feedback. Sorry no sounds sadly.
  • When ever you trying to cast a spell that is already active, it'll tell you, "you can not cast an active spell!" Using "Can't" and changing a part of player GUI displaying the spells to be red.
  • Made the player GUI that tells you're spell are active are now circles, not rectangles. They're pretty rebellious; they hate rectangles.
  • The Score and Damage Hit Multiplier is now more BIG and readable.
  • Added a White Box behind the Timer, Score, and Damage Hit Multiplier more readable.
  • Made the window of the game less taller. Hoping lower resolution monitors can play properly!

Final Regards

I do say, I don't really care if not a lot of people play this game anymore. It did bothered me a bit. It happens when I make Art Piece online. However, knowing that I made a game that is well made or something that I'm really proud of. I'm really happy because of it. I'll be more happy if people play it, but at the same time. So is completing this game. But, I feel like I'm lying to myself when I said that, but it's good to be optimistic!

Besides, I barely did any marketing on this game. So it's fine really. But I do wish whenever I remake this game into something I actually imagined to be. A Online Multiplayer Fighting Game that focuses on Spacing and using Spells to Bait, Trap, or whatever the player wants to do to win. Something I really hope will be popular, at least to couple of people. I'll be happy if that were the case. I'll be more happier if my dream game will too.

This regards is a bit personal, but it is THE final update to this game that not a lot of people know. So yeah. Umm... Thank you for playing this game I suppose. Hopefully my future games will more appealing and more fun (with SOUNDS and MUSIC). Good bye!

Right, here's Meredith in full resolution if I'm more experienced in Pixel Art, and have more knowledge in Java. Sorry didn't know how to put in images. Wasn't taught that concept yet. I could learn how to do it, and replace EVERYTHING, but everything made in that game was coded in. It'll be awhile to do it, and I just wanna finish this game. Not planning to support this in the long run.


P.S

If you're bored, you can access Debug Mode/Cheat Mode by pressing "I". The debugging stuff is on the outside right side of the game (Full Screen the game).

  • Summon Spells = 1 - 5.
  • In Menu Score decrease/increase by 50000 = H - J
  • Time decrease/increase by 1 = B - N (Sorry, you cannot by pass it to go more than 2 mins. I have it programmed, but it's set into counting down. Not up)
  • Debugging Menu Page Switching =  O - P
    • Debugging Menu Subpage Switching = K - L
